ISO IEC 15693-1 pdf download – Identification cards — Contactless integrated circuit cards — Vicinity cards — Part 1: Physical characteristics
1 Scope
This part of lSO/IEC 15693 defines the physical characteristics of vicinity cards (VICCs).lt is used in conjunction with other parts of lSO/IEC 15693.
2Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For datedreferences, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenceddocument (including any amendments) applies.

3Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in lSO/IEC7810,ISOIEC 15457-1 and thefollowing apply.
3.1
integrated circuitlc
electronic component designed to perform processing and/or memory functions
3.2
contactless
pertaining to the achievement of signal exchange with, and supply of power to, the card without the use ofgalvanic elements (i.e. the absence of an ohmic path from the external interfacing equipment to the integratedcircuit contained within the card)
3.3
contactless integrated circuit card
card into which integrated circuit and coupling means have been placed, such that communication to suchintegrated circuit is done in a contactless manner
3.4
operate as intended
operate in the manner described by the manufacturer’s specification in accordance with lSOIEC 15693
3.5vlcc
vicinity card
contactless integrated circuit card or other object with which communication and power transfer are done byinductive coupling in vicinity of a coupling device
4Physical characteristics
4.1General
The Vicc may be in the form of a card compliant with IlSO/IEC 7810 or ISO/IEC 15457-1, or an object of anyother dimension.
4.2Antenna
lf the VlCC dimensions are not compliant with ISO/IEC 7810 or lSOIEC 15457-1, the dimensions of the Viccantenna shall not exceed 86 mm x 54 mm x 3 mm in order to maximize interoperability.
NOTE This antenna size restriction stems from the fact that the radio frequency power and signal interface defined inISOIEC 15693-2 and its test methods in ISOIEC 10373-7 are based on lD-1 cards. The test methods can give unreliableresults with antennas larger than that defined above.
4.3Alternating magnetic field
The VIiCC,whichever form the VicC has according to 4.1, shall continue to operate as intended aftercontinuous exposure to a magnetic field of an average level of 10 Am rms at 13,56 MHz.The averaging timeis 30 seconds and the maximum level of the magnetic field is limited to 12 Am rms.
4.4Additional information
Surface quality for printing is discussed in Annex A.
When a hole slot is optionally implemented, the slot should be as shown in Annex B.
